Author's purpose - Part 1

This comprehensive lesson plan introduces students to the concept of author's purpose using the acronym PIE (Persuade, Inform, Entertain). The lesson begins with a warm-up exercise where students read texts and discuss why they think the author wrote them. This is followed by an introduction to the three main reasons an author writes a text. Students then practice identifying these purposes by sorting text cards. Finally, they apply what they've learned to a short text and share their findings. The lesson concludes with a summary and additional practice activities if time allows.
