    What Is Volume?

    Volume refers to the amount of space occupied by a 3D object or shape. In simple words, volume is a measure of three-dimensional space contained within a closed surface.

    It is measured in cubic units, such as cubic inches (m³)  or cubic meters (m³), depending on the units of the dimensions of the object.

    Volume of 3D shapes can also be expressed in terms of the number of unit cubes that perfectly fit inside the given 3D shape.

    Volume Formula

    Cube

    The lengths of all edges of a cube are equal. The volume of a cube is calculated by cubing the length of one of its sides.

    Volume of a cube \(= s^{3}\)

    Where ‘s’ is the length of any edge.

    Cuboid 

    (Rectangular Prism)

    The volume of a cuboid is found by multiplying its length, width, and height.

    Volume of a cuboid \(= l \times b \times h\)

    where

    \(l\): length, b: breadth, \(h\): height

    Cylinder

    The volume of a cylinder is determined by multiplying the base area by its height. The base of a cylinder is a circle.

    Volume of a cylinder = Base area \(\times\) Height

    Volume of a cylinder \(= \pi r^{2}h\) 

    where

    \(r\): Radius of the circular base

    \(h\): Height of the cylinder

    Cone

    The volume of a cone is calculated as one-third of the base area multiplied by its height.

    The base of a cone is a circle.

    Volume of a cylinder = 

    \(\frac{1}{3}\pi r^{2}h\) 

    where

    \(r\): Radius of the circular base

    \(h\): Height of the cone

    Sphere

    Volume of a sphere \(= \frac{4}{3}\;\pi r^{3}\) 

    where

    \(r\): Radius of the sphere

    Hemisphere

    The volume of a hemisphere is half of the volume of a sphere.

    Volume of a hemisphere \(= \frac{2}{3} \pi r^{3}\) 

    where

    \(r\): Radius of the hemisphere

    Prism

    The volume of a prism is determined by multiplying the base area by its height.

    Volume of a prism = Base area \(\times\) Height

    We can define the base area on the basis of the type of the prism.

    Pyramid

    The volume of a pyramid is determined by multiplying the base area by its height.

    Volume of a prism = Base area \(\times\) Height

    We can define the base area on the basis of the type of the pyramid.
